MYCELLIUM STUDIOS - MELBOURNE
The Entropy project involved the prototyping of a sound sculpture installation. The development of the sculpture began with the design of a hardware system that enables the joining together of timber components into complex chaotic non-linear structures. These structures can be configured to respond to their spatial environment in any way and enable the mounting of an array of speakers in a multitude of positions and angles.
At the center of the project was a 24-channel 3D immersive loudspeaker orchestra that was installed throughout the Gallery Space at Mycelium Studios. Rather than sound coming from a stage, the audio was distributed in precise spatial patterns around the room allowing music to move, evolve, and exist physically within the space.
Ultimately, the immersive sound event sought to expand how audiences experience electronic and experimental music as an immersive spatial sonic environment.
