entropy

MYCELLIUM STUDIOS - MELBOURNE

The Entropy project involves the prototyping of a sound sculpture installation. The development of the sculpture began with the design of a hardware system that enables the joining together of timber components into complex chaotic non-linear structures. These structures can be configured to respond to their spatial environment in any way and enable the mounting of an array of speakers in a multitude of positions and angles.

At the center of the project is a 24-channel 3D immersive loudspeaker orchestra that will be installed throughout the Gallery Space at Mycelium Studios. Rather than sound coming from a stage, the audio is distributed in precise spatial patterns around the room allowing music to move, evolve, and exist physically within the space.

The event is designed as a both a sound installation and a live immersive music showcase, and included projection art and visual mapping of the space. The project is a partnership with MIST (Melbourne Immersive Sound Theatre) at SIAL Sound Studios, in collaboration with Featherprint Productions, and Mycelium Studios.

Ultimately, the immersive sound event seeks to expand how audiences experience electronic and experimental music as an immersive, spatial, walk-through sonic environment.
