sensoria

RMIT UNIVERSITY, INTERIOR DESIGN PROGRAM

The Sensoria Festival of Design Education explored exciting work in spatial design which interweaves ideas, materials, media and phenomena in ways that engage our senses both imaginatively and viscerally. These themes were explored through a wide selection of lectures, exhibitions, performances, events and discussions over a week long period.

Sensoria used Melbourne city as its campus for the week with events hosted by venues including Federation Square, the Museum of Victoria, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), RMIT Storey Hall and First Site Gallery, as well as the network of galleries, bars and design practices that characterise the city of Melbourne.

A highlight of the festival was the 'Manifest' event held at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. Manifest was a one night only installation that sought to challenge our understanding of sensory space. A group of innovative national and international cultural producers were invited to engage with the gallery site to transform it into a series of provocative sensorial encounters.

The outcomes of the festival were published as a book called The Sensuous Intellect. To view its contents follow the links below.
