future present past

RMIT UNIVERSITY MEDIA PRECINCT, MELBOURNE

The RMIT Master of Design Innovation and Technology is a unique multidisciplinary program that speculates on the future of design and seeks to develop methodologies that integrate the needs of people with the potentials that lie within technological innovation. Future Present Past was a ten year anniversary celebration of the program.

The event provided the opportunity for academic staff, alumni, and current students to share the innovative approaches to design and technology that have been developed during this time. It featured an exhibition of alumni work and a multimedia experience that immersed the audience in the wide range of student projects that were generated over the previous decade.

The focus of the week was a two day symposium which was structured around four individual sessions that focus on the ongoing research themes of the program. These themes included:

  • FABRICATION - digital design, fabrication, and advanced manufacturing

  • INTERACTION - interactive and intelligent objects and spaces

  • IMMERSION - embodied, sensorial, and affective immersive environments

  • REGENERATION - low-carbon, circular, regenerative, and more-than-human design solutions

Recordings of the lectures are featured on the

MDITV youtube channel.
